Well it has been a while since I have posted but the fight continues. I have been working hard on developing a community based discussion forum for the Windsor and Essex County region.
It is apparent that the future of our local "A" station has been etched in stone and the future may be that Shaw Communications will be the new owner.
We don't know what the plans are and we know that the axe is still coming down within the remaining broadcasters including radio.
Unfortunately we have no choice but to rely on CTV for our only local news on AM800 CKLW radio. Who let CTV own our entire market without a guarantee or commitment to service the area regardless of their poor business practices?
Boycott CTV and ANY Government Bailouts to them or CBC!

Windsor Stands Behind Local News
Take a moment and read the article Bob Smith has posted on his blog: http://bobsmith55.blogspot.com/2009/03/windsor-stands-behind-local-news.html
For those who may not know Bob Smith, he teaches broadcast journalism at Fanshawe College in Southwest Ontario and is one of the most admired anchors on "A" News. Bob was part of the former "A" Morning crew and even though he is a London Knights fan, we still love him down here in Windsor!
As I stroll down the information highway picking up bits and pieces of independent perspectives regarding this issue, Bob's article sums it up very well for us.
Great article Bob and we are behind you and the "A" Crew even when the "A" disappears!

CTV Cancels "A" Morning Without Notice!
Now CTVglobemedia cancels "A" Morning with this mornings broadcast being the last. Without warning, I caught Jim tell us during tonights newscast.
We will miss the "A" Morning Team and would like to thank them for helping us begin our day's in Windsor!
Best wishes to everyone on-air and behind the scenes, we will miss you all.
Wow, I wonder if Londoners thought that would happen?
Now, I wonder if Canadians will wake up and get involved!
Who's next?
I say lets shop for a new national network and offer them the Olympics as an incentive (since we will boycott CTV into collapse) to invest their own money, not ours in the way of bailouts.
Better yet, lets pool our resources and buy our own "public" network.
Even better yet, lets get the government to fund it, can you say Stimulus!

Why Boycott CTV?
We are making a statement to CTV across Canada. We are going to miss our local "A" channel news as are many but CTV and CBC are just corporate whores!
They are looking for the government to bail them out, at our expense. Does CTV believe we owe it to them to bail them out? Well you guys are bailing on us so don't expect anything from us!
If it isn't bad enough that the Big 3, oops Detroit 3, has beat us down into submission, now the grand masters at CTVglobemedia have to kick us when we are down.
Let this be a lesson to all Canadians. Once your local economy takes a big enough hit and the unemployment rates get too high, you are no longer news worthy. Or should I say worthy of news or local programming.
Notice how I only mention missing the news? It's hard to miss anything else. The problem is one they created by shelling out millions to buy programs for the US that we can watch for free and are broadcast in digital HDTV from Detroit. We only watch the news for the most part. We might consider watching some of the US shows but the way they splice and switch signals reminds me of old school basic cable tv services.
Now they need millions in Federal Bailout Money!
Our position is simple, we believe this is a money grab by CTVglobemedia. They are losing money because, in their words, the economic model for television in this country is broken. Well who broke it?
Sorry to the corporate whores of North America, we can not afford to offer you the reward of a bailout. It's time for you to go so someone can develop a working economic model!
How many other issues CTVglobemedia has created over the past few months and how many problems have they infilicted and induced upon us Cnanadians over the past few years?
It must be nice to have the ability to control information, CTVglobemedia sure yields that power!
Post your stories and discuss this issue freely!
CTV closing Windsor and Wingham stations and warns the company may need to consider similar action in other markets.

The company states that due to the financial crisis, coupled with a recet government regulatory decision, is making local programming more and more difficult to sustain.
If it isn't bad enough that the Big 3, oops Detroit 3, has beat us down into submission, now the grand masters at CTVglobemedia have to kick us when we are down.
CTVglobemedia also states that the decision will leave the Wingham and Windsor communities without local CTV news, and viewers in the two communities will have to turn to the A brand station in London.
